Why is Supply Chain Efficiency important in the Freight and Transportation World?
C02 emissions are likely to increase 4x as much due to an increase in demand for goods. At Brite Logistics, we are continuing to grow in size, which simultaneously translates to more fuel used. We at Brite looked for ways to minimize the carbon footprint. The logistics world has looked for solutions for Supply Chain Efficiency. There has been a demand for sustainability in the logistics world. Finally, we have been finding ways to reduce the carbon footprint the supply chain industry leaves.
How does transportation cause pollution?
According to the United States EPA, In 2015, the U.S. logistics industry moved more than 49.5 million tons of goods. Air pollution emitted from transportation contributes to poor air quality. This then affects citizens’ lives. The U.S. transportation sector is responsible for over 50% of NOx total emissions in the U.S. Within transportation alone, trucks are the fastest-growing contributor to emissions. Even with this knowledge, freight contributions will increase. In 2025 the shipment of U.S. goods is estimated to grow by 23.5%. In 2040 by 45%. As this increases, freight emissions will produce in excess. But Companies involved in the production, distribution, and transportation of goods can make a difference. At Brite, we believe we can reduce the risks of air pollution caused by freight transportation. That is why we have enrolled in the SmartWay EPA program.
About SmartWay
SmartWay provides an advanced and well-recognized system for tracking. This program shares documents and information about fuel use and freight emission across supply chains. SmartWay, then helps companies identify and select more efficient freight carriers, transport modes, equipment, and operational strategies to improve supply chain sustainability. Meanwhile, this results in lower costs from goods movement. SmartWay supports global energy security. It offsets environmental risk for companies and countries. It also reduces freight transportation-related emissions by accelerating the use of advanced fuel-saving technologies. Also, SmartWay is supported by significant transportation industry associations, environmental groups, governments, and the corporate community.
Why Brite Chooses SmartWay
Companies that participate in the EPA’s SmartWay Program are leading the world in reducing these impacts. They are making freight transportation more sustainable. Enrollment in the SmartWay Program translates to being consciously aware of how supply chain sustainability affects the environment and citizens. With Smart way, Brite Logistics plans to collaborate and improve by measuring benchmarking. This will improve our logistics operations so we can do our part and maximize our freight transportation efficiency. Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) is to explore freight emission and fuel use sustainability as industry leaders. We must continue to account for freight and fuel. We will continue to include it in our sustainability plan. At Brite Logistics will always do our part. We will consider other sustainability programs in the future as they are introduced.
